Magnus Swenson

Iver Magnus Swenson (12.4.1854 i Langesund, Telemark - 29.3.1936 i Madison, Wisconsin) var sønn av fabrikkeier og repslager Johannes Svensen () og Anne Bolette Iversen (1825-25.10.1858 i Larvik).

When he was two years of age his mother died. The family then moved to Larvik where the father, Johann Swenson, owned and managed a large factory for the manufacture of rope. His father remarried, and as more brothers and sisters came into the world Magnus often found himself an abused and neglected stepchild.

Shortly after his fourteenth birthday a second tragedy came into his life. His father's rope factory burned to the ground. The property was without insurance. From that day, Magnus was dependent upon his own resources. It was then that he looked with longing eyes to the land of opportunity, to America, the hope and goal of Europe's poor and oppressed.

Barn: Edith Dinsdale Swenson Davis (6.1.1884 i Kansas- 21.1.1958), Mary Waddington Swenson (2.8.1885 i Kansas- 1977), Alice Mann Swenson (12.5.1886 i Kansas- 21.5.1907), Helen K. Swenson ().

I 1875 begynte han studier ved the University of Wisconsin. Han ble kjemiingeniør og ble kjent for sine analyser av vannforsyning fra og forurensing av Madisons vannforekomster. Senere ble han ekspert på framstilling av sukker.
